About ACSSA

Alberta Confined Space Safety Association, ACSSA

Controlled by Non-Profit Societies Regulations

Has an Executive board

Welcomes members from all industries

Welcomes members from all employers

Welcomes competent workers in all professions

Allows for a combined and standardized Confined Space Industry

Allows for greater control of the training content

Legislation dictates:

Every employer must have a safe workplace and competent workers

or workers supervised by competent workers

All employers conducting Confined Space Work have a Confined Space Program in place:

Designed by a Safety Profesional

Controlled by Confined Space Coordinators

With Hazard Assessments and controls

With Permits, Procedures, Inspections, forms

With Competently trained workers

With Emergency Response Preparation in place

And be Supported by a corresponding Safety Program

ACSSA believes:

That ACSSA has surpassed all legislated requirements

That how-to training is the greatest step towards competent workers.

That workers who know their job are less likely to become injured.

That knowledge and prevention are keys to success

That worksite training and safety training are inseparable

Legislation crosses all industries and so must our training

Mission Statement

to provide a proven solution to Confined Space Confusion

to provide sound, challenging, and quality certified training courses

to comply with the Legislation requirement of competent workers

to Standardized worksite practices for Multi-Industry workers

to offer proven, challenging, and quality training

Justification for ACSSA

Most online training today is little more than introductory courses

Many offer descriptions of what needs to be put in place

Most courses are missing valuable information such as how to component

Confined Space work has a very high rate of injury and deaths

ACSSA offers:

A complete system, a generation ahead

How-to-safely-do-it training with forms that lead the way

Documents that can be used in the field as reference manuals and guides

instruction for workers on how to do their job and do it safely

Tools to use such as the confined space permit, atmospheric testing log, isolation sheet, tool list, hazard assessment, equipment checks

Described Reporting, Planning, Tracking, and follow-up systems that ensure the actions are not forgotten

Employer Need

All businesses in all countries who need to protect their workers

Businesses that use ISNetworld, Comply Works, and other verifiers

All industries that work with Confined Spaces

Businesses that want a competent workforce

Employment Need

Labor forces move from one area to another and sometimes across continents.

Task skills may not be available in all areas

Workers can become work-ready before employment

Competent workers are valuable and at a higher demand

Reduced competition with higher quality workers

Reducing accident/incident rates equals savings

Promotes stable self-reliant families

New Worker Need

As introductory and unskilled workers are the most vulnerable to accidents, this type of training will give them an excellent starting point and will:

Require less supervision

Require less on-the-job training

Reduced liability with proven competency

Improve the quality of the workforce

Give less chance of the training missing important points, rules, or hazards
